Appalachian Trail for Mental Health

Wassup, my name is Derick Walsh, I'm a student at IUPUI and I'll be thru hiking the Appalachian Trail starting in May. It is the longest held goal in my life, and after an attempt in 2015 that lasted 530 miles, I'll be finishing it this year. This time starting over... from the beginning.

I'll be hiking 2200 miles from Georgia to Maine on the spine of America's oldest mountain range. I'll be hiking for a cause that is personal to me. That cause being mental health awareness, from depression to suicide prevention in the Fishers, Indiana area. All proceeds donated to this site go directly to the  Peyton Riekhof Foundation. Donations will go toward funding next years high-school programs.

I'll be posting photos and videos on the interwebs, specifically through updates on GoFundMe, but also on Instagram (@derickwalshh)and Facebook.

My email address for the hike is If you'd like to mail me, I will respond back with a letter. We can talk about anything. You address the letter with my name (Derick Walsh), the words General Delivery  (very important), and 200 Pearl Ave, Marion, VA 24354 as the address. Provide a return address off to the side, and add “Hold for A.T. hiker" and my expected arrival date (just put May 25th). Writing legibly is important. Add postage and mail it. When I reach there anytime after May 25th, it'll be held for 30 days, I'll pick it up and write back.

**I am fully funded and have saved money for years, all donations go to the foundation. Gofundme automatically takes 5% and theres a 2.9% processing fee, but all donations go to the foundation**
